Truagh Counterpane
This
large wallhanging was one of my earliest quilts. It hung in the Irish
Patchwork Society's Exhibition in 1987. It was also my first International
venture and was part of the Irish Focus group at the first Expo Exhibition
in Salzburg in 1988. It also featured on the front page of one of the
early editions of the British Patchwork and Quilting magazine.
The wallhanging was inspired by a dramatic sunset behind Truagh hill as
seen from my back window. The orange and pink rays of the sun were bursting
through dark thunderclouds as the sun set behind the dark green hills.
I was intrigued by the possibility of capturing this scene using a traditional
patchwork pattern. My choice of pattern was the Spider's Web which had
sufficient flexibility to capture an abstract view of the scene. |
